Well I hope you enjoyed my coverage of Tissot NBA Finals VIP Viewing Party. Now I want to share with you my thought process about this last minute Outfit-of-the-Day (OOTD) choice for the event. This series of Street Fashion Sydney style portraits were photographed by Kent using the Fujifilm X100F – on loan to him by Fujifilm Australia for documenting this year’s Head On Photo Festival and Vivid Sydney.
Although having never considered myself a sporty type, when reading the Dress Code from the event’s reminder email: Smart Casual (NBA/basketball jerseys encouraged); I thought I would be pretty safe fitting in with the casual yet smart category wearing my pre-selected outfit. However, due to a sudden temperature drop in Sydney, I was worried that my original choice wouldn’t have kept me warm so I had to come up with a plan B – fast!
Out of my very few winter jumpers, I went for this blue, red and grey wide striped number. The colours do remind me of the American flag; I had a feeling that it’s an American themed party – American basketball after all! ‘Now, what goes with that?’ ‘Blue jeans?’ ‘Too casual.’ ‘Black A-line skirt?’ ‘Better not mixing navy blue and black.’ So I had this debate running in my head… No black with navy, what goes with watching sport? So I ended up settling with not pants but this silver pleated maxi skirt. The only real sporty element in this outfit would be my silver sneakers, if only I had a basketball cap… Overall, I was pleased with my 8-minute styling effort. I took a look at Kent’s red and cream Venetian gondolier striped sweater (he wears it everywhere nowadays), a blue and white stripy shirt underneath. Believe me, our red and blue ensemble was not planned. It happened by coincidence!
Another coincidence was that our blue and red colour combination was surprisingly well coordinated with the NBA logo on the media wall. ‘Was that the only reason the Getty Images photographer wanted a shot of us?’ I jokingly asked. The moment we saw team caps – Warriors and Raptors – among other giveaways for event guests, I was very happy. ‘Here’s my missing element!’ I picked a Toronto Raptors team cap to wear simply because the colours went really well with my OOTD. Now I could say that my look was finally completed!
What could have really made our day and look ‘a little’ better would have been an official Tissot NBA watch. Unfortunately Kent and I did not win that lucky door prize. However, walking away with two NBA basketballs was still pretty cool. We decided to donate these fabulous balls to a boys’ hip-hop dance group down the Woolloomooloo.
This set of photos were taken near the National Art School in Darlinghurst. Sydney winter’s glorious blue sky on display. And what better accessory than having an NBA basketball to pose with?
