Holly is a beautiful ginger-haired Pomeranian who lives in the Southern Highlands with my former partner as she is his pet. We – Holly and I were inseparable during that two and a half years relationship. Fortunately after the break up, she has been allowed to come up to Sydney and stay with me occasionally.

Xiao Dudu 小嘟嘟 is the nickname I gave to my beloved Holly. Xiao means ‘little’ or ‘small’ in Chinese and dudu comes from pang dudu 胖嘟嘟 or yuan dudu 圓嘟嘟, which are used to describe a cute chubby baby or a lovable chubby toddler. With a fluffy hairball body shape and an adorable face, Holly IS Xiao Dudu – rounded cute little thing – to me! Sometimes I simply call her Dudu. Each time Dudu visits me, my heart bursts with joy and I can’t stop taking pictures of my gorgeous little darling.

This photoshoot took place at Rushcutters Bay Park during one of Holly’s short stays in Sydney. Living in Mittagong, the Southern Highlands where the climate is cooler than Sydney, her fur stays thick all year round. Walking with my rounded cute little thing, onlookers often come up to me asking if they could pat her or touch her coat. Our happy time together always seems so short and more so as Dudu gets older… her Sydney visits getting shorter and rarer. Yet thanks to Kent who captured these precious moments we shared; each time I look at them, it takes me to the land of pure happiness.

From early on when I started my Sydney series – COVID-edition, I encouraged Sydneysiders to ‘explore our backyards’ (well everyone really); therefore I think it’s a perfect timing to showcase this lovely spot of Rushcutters Bay Park in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. During the pandemic I have heard people complaining about not be able to travel overseas, but if we look around (without even needing to look hard), we can see places such as this bayfront park and/or Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf… In my opinion, they are just as postcard-worthy as the South of France.
