Unlike most of the beaches in Sydney, Clovelly Beach is covered by concrete platforms around the bay. Sun bakers on concrete promenades help create this beach’s unique landscape. And because of its distinctive scenes, Clovelly is one of my favourite beaches in Sydney! (The other favourite of mine is Dee Why Beach.)
On any given day, I would prefer having what I call a ‘clean frame’, meaning no passersby in the backdrops of my portraits. On this glorious summer day, Clovelly was packed with sun tanners. Instead of moving me to a quieter corner, Kent chose to embrace the energy of the beachgoers and turned the disadvantage in my eye – the crowd – to our benefit.
It took me a while to get Kent’s vision, and when I finally got it, I loved it! People do bring movement, energy, and fun to a picture, the opening shot I picked for this post is a great example. There are four passersby in this image and they are conspicuous – but it works! An image containing dynamic motions from all directions of beings is hard to nail, it takes a good eye and experience to get it right.
My fashion note on the day… A floral cocktail dress with high heels, green mixed with gold, volume hair… Being a huge fan of big (volume) hair, I just love the glam, the confidence, and the drama it exudes.
So, a party woman finds herself in the middle of sun-and-sea lovers. Everything is so vibrant around her, who could blame her for missing her party boat?

Love this selection and the edits. Great to see the richness of options from this photoshoot. Thank you Vivienne.
Thank you Kent, for the collaboration! And most of all, thank you for changing my opinions about the passersby in a photo frame. X
