One of my favourite movie stars Gwyneth Paltrow openly admitted that ‘there were a few issues’ with her gothic-style Alexander McQueen red carpet look for the 2002 Oscars. Yes it’s comforting to know that even an international style icon has ‘I should have worn a bra’ fashion regrets. And I do too… So, for your entertainment, I’m sharing my hit and miss wardrobe choices in front of the media wall. Let’s start with the very beginning…
Vogue-Worthy For Vogue Fashion’s Night Out?
This is where it all began for me. I owe it to Street Fashion Sydney as Kent Johnson’s plus-one invite to this aspiring blogger. (Well we were in the early stage of dating…) David Jones Level Seven was the location of this invitation only – VFNO 2013 ‘The Social Party’, and here I come! If I would change anything, it would be my handbag. I would have used a smaller bag or even better – a clutch. Ideally a metallic clutch. Meanwhile, red tie, pink shirt; grey suit and a grey fedora… Kent had pulled this look off effortlessly! I have blogged about this experience on both vivalaViv and White Caviar Life; click the links to find out more.
What To Wear For The Black And White Theme
It’s only natural to wear black and white to attend a Black and White Theme party, right? Well at least that’s what I was going for. Montblanc’s Black and White Event in 2014, celebrating its iconic Meisterstück collection’s 90th anniversary at the Doltone House. Yet again, I went along as Kent’s plus-one. Picture above, the media wall behind me, captured with me signing the guest book using the iconic Meisterstück 149 fountain pen. What do I think of my ‘press look’? Perhaps a little grey from my rabbit fur collar wrap and a cream beret blunt my original black and white attempt? Next time when I visualising a black and white look, I should stick with just black and white.
My First Appearance At MBFWA
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) calling, well you want to dress to impress. I had to ditch my first outfit choice for this event due to a sudden weather change. I could have done more to accessorise my white shirt or layered it up – but I didn’t. It’s all about making a fashion statement to stand out in the crowd at an occasion like this, which is only the most important event in Australia’s fashion calendar! Hit or miss? Let’s put it this way – room for improvement!
From A Plus-One To Becoming A Player
Things were looking bright at the media launch of Safilo S/S 2015 Eyewear Collections at the sun-filled Ivy Sun Room! Bright? Partly because I was wearing one of the collections ‘gold’ sunnies, but mostly I believe that I began to dress like a real fashion and lifestyle blogger! Clashing patterns, surprising accessories… For the first time I felt like the player instead of a plus-one guest. Not there for the free champagne; I tried out four of my favourite pairs of sunglasses for this impromptu photoshoot and it put a big smile on the PR’s face. A win win day for us all… Click here to view Kent’s and my matchy matchy stripy tops and other fabulous eyewear that we had fun wearing at this media preview.
Showing Some American Love At Sperry Australia’s VIP Launch
If I had done some research and knew that Paul Sperry created the world’s first non-slip boat shoes in 1935, I would have chosen a different outfit. But instead of channelling the Riviera, or a yacht club kind of ensemble, I dressed like I was ready for the American country music festival. Ops!!! Though at the time I was happy with my Outfit-of-the-Day; what made me happiest was meeting and chatting with Steve Flood and Will Stewart – the winning duo of My Kitchen Rules 2015 season. Yes, that was the first reality cooking competition show Kent and I began to watch. Thanks to one of the contestants being a model client of Kent’s… While that belongs to another story, click here to read my starstruck moment spotting Will and Steve at this exclusive party.
Made In Italy VS Made In Italy
Kent and I were invited to the opening gala of Sydney Italian Festival 2015. The theme that year was ‘Made in Italy’. So I thought, what better way to celebrate the excellence of Made in Italy than turning up with my made in Italy Paola Frani cocktail dress! Five and a half years later I still think I made a good choice, and look at Kent, don’t you think he looked every inch a stylish Italian man!
A Target Not To Be Missed
Here we are! Kent’s Street Fashion Sydney was invited to the exclusive preview of Jean Paul Gaultier (JPG) for Target Australia; I arrived later as his plus-one. We had a sneak peek of JPG for Target collection while sipping French champagne and sampling French fromage! As predicted, lots of stripy shirts and skirts (hello it’s Jean Paul Gaultier!!!), but I did spot a few bloggers wearing head to toe in black including myself. Kent casually crushed in his Armani linen jacket… nice!
Well, I hope you enjoy this post as much as I have enjoyed revisiting these fun and admittedly self-indulgent ‘limelight moments’! What would you have chosen to wear for the same occasions? That’s what I’d like to know!
