Being a huge fan of Sex and the City, I couldn’t miss this opportunity to slip on my own pair of Manolo Blahnik; take a stroll along Fifth Avenue channelling everyone’s fashion icon Carrie Bradshaw.

Yes, that Fifth Avenue, was only a block away from our hotel The Roger. Starting our little journey by foot from 31st Street; with Sex and the City theme tune playing in my head. Walking toward the east side, then north on Fifth… Empire State and Chrysler Buildings, yellow taxis; colourful inviting food carts and food trucks – stacks of pretzels, flashing lights – how exciting! ‘Oh yeeees!!! I am in New York City!’ Feeling real yet so surreal; how could one not fall in love with such energetic vibes! How could one not fall in love with New York City?!!!

From 31st Street East where we started; Kent and I promenaded over 19 blocks to the Rockefeller Center. My Manolo heels were so comfortable to walk in, even after all that distance – a true sign of well-made footwear right there.

Lunch? Yes please! We were hungry after all that walking and calories burning. We decided on the Rock Center Café in the Lower Plaza of Rockefeller Center for an American grill (read this experience here); followed by a self-guided mini tour led by Kent discovering this group of buildings that makes up the Rockefeller Center.

That evening we had Art Hearts Fashion, New York Fashion Week day one show to attend, ‘we’d better go back to get ready’ and so we headed back – yes more walking! On the corner of Saks Fifth Avenue, two girls were handing out magazines – ‘New York Fashion Week!’; ‘All the latest of New York Fashion Week!’ – they called out loud while giving them away. Lovely, a free what’s-on magazine and here’s one for me!

Wandering back to The Roger, we tried Madison Avenue for a change of scenery. While there was no bus and puddle (water to splash my outfit drama), well it was a beautiful, blue sky day after all. Suddenly, I saw something as New York as it gets – STEAM – street steam rising from white and orange tubes; puffing fluffy clouds of steam in the middle of the street, the busy traffic…
What a fabulous photo opportunity! And that, made a perfect wrap for my running in the city with my Manolos!
